Unsocialized Stray Cat Program

You can see them if you know where to look. They are living outside in  parks or in alleys, perhaps even in your neighborhood. They are cats who live outside  without direct human contact. Some have been abandoned to fend for themselves;  some of them were born outside. The longer they live on their own, away from human  contact, the more feral they become.

This program is for the residents of Freeborn County. The goal of our program is to sterilize as many cats as possible, eventually reducing the number of cats that must live as homeless or un-owned strays and reduce the amount of kittens born into this difficult life.

Our Feral Cat Initiative Program will accept:

  • Homeless free-roaming cats
  • Unsocialized feral cats
  • Unowned strays
  • Farm Cats

If you have any questions, contact the Feral Cat initiative Program Coordinator at

  • By my signature below, I acknowledge the following:

    1. I am aware that feral and farm cats may have existing health conditions that may put them at risk during surgery. I recognize the risks feral cats face during handling, anesthesia, and surgery and do not hold the Freeborn County Humane Society, its volunteers, board members or loaned facilities responsible should a cat experience complications, injury, escape, or death. Any cat deemed by the veterinarian to be severely ill or injured will be humanely euthanized. I also release the Freeborn County Humane Society and its volunteers and facilities from any liability for any injuries, which may occur while trapping, transporting, or caring for these cats.

    2. I agree that all cats will receive food, water, shelter and necessary care on a regular basis following surgery when they are returned to the location from which they were taken. I acknowledge the possibility that once released, some cats may not return.

    3. I agree to arrange transportation for cats to and from clinic facility at the specified time(s). Failure to do so, may require boarding and/or transportation fees payable to Freeborn County Humane Society. (Occasionally the Humane Society will assist with transport to and from the clinic, which will be determined before clinic date).

    4. I am aware that each cat will be spayed/neutered and have its left ear clipped to identify it as a spayed/neutered cat.
